“Wear this,” they say.
And she strips off her clothes,
Puts on the ones
She is asked to.
“Look like this,” they say.
And she changes her face
As they paint it, hides it
Behind a mask.
“Work it,” they say.
And she smiles, frowns,
Laughs, stares, acts
Like someone else.
“It’s a wrap,” they say.
And she looks in the mirror,
Wipes her face, finds her way back
To her old, real self
Her bare face
Clear, soft, free,
Touched, caressed
By the cold breeze.
Her hair down
Flowing and full of life
Swaying, dancing
To the rhythm of her walk.
It lasts the night.
The sun rises
And she is in
For another day of pretension.

Hi Jingle.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your continuous support. I just have a question. How is the Poets Rally different from the Poetry Potluck? :)
Thanks and Merry Christmas, too. :)
Katherine
potluck has no requirement on commenting, you can link in 1 to 3 poems to potluck, enjoy some traffic to my blog, feel free to comment 1 to 100 or what ever entries, in general, potluck has a theme, some participants write entries fitting potluck weekly theme...
ReplyDeletepoets rally has no theme, you must comment for 18 poets from my list if you attend poets rally, and nobody is allowed to gossip or complain, perfect poet award is officially assigned weekly in the rally, poets rally has specific rules and higher requirement...
Thanks for the question,
welcome to both if you wish.
