Skyscraper

On this site will rise
A tower of dreams
Storeys upon storeys
Of months and months
Of labor.

Men excavate deep
For a solid foundation.
Steel and concrete marry,
Giving birth to a sound structure
Of ambition.

Spaces are partitioned
Into shoebox square meters,
But hey, it has the prime address
And pure luxuries at the press
Of the elevator button.

At last, it’s turned over
To those who’ve paid the price
Of reaching the sky,
Rising above the city,
Untouchable by mere mortals.

  1. You create a nice picture here of something we walk past every day. I like the idea of 'mere mortals' at the end not being able to access it.
